TT 30 November 2012: Gallows Pole

Dear Rock n Rollers,

Still stuck on Led Zep....I found the original version of Gallow's Pole by Lead Belly (1888-1949) and his 12 string guitar. I like both the original and the LZ version, particularly as it evolves into a 'stomp' halfway through the tune. I also include some John Lennon ( Yer Blues-co authored by PMc) and Cold Turkey, along with Paul's Medicine Jar. The rest is mainly blues , beginning with Melissa and finishing off with some early Dylan and Blind Faith. Enjoy!

TT 9 November 2012: The Blues Roots of Led Zeppelin and The Doors

Dear Rock n Rollers,

Slim Harpo, Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williams, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters all influenced both The Doors (Los Angeles) and Led Zeppelin (London). Check out   some gems from these blues masters and then compare to the (resulting) tunes of  Led Zep and Doors. Enjoy!

TT 02 November 2012: Nick Drake

Dear Rock n Rollers,

Nick Drake (1948-74) made three albums in his short career before sinking into deep depression and ending his life with a drug overdose. The music didn't sell at the time, but his influence has waxed over time.  This set is not happy, happy, but is beautiful at the same time. I take songs from each of Drake's LPs and mixed it with Young, Velvet, Bowie, Cat Stevens and Pentagle. Heavy but good.
